Anil Misra has left Reliance Retail and has started his own venture, Eduonn. Misra shares, “With 27 years in human resources, I’ve been a CHRO for different companies dealing with large-scale challenges. Now, with Eduonn, I want to use that experience for career-boosting training and HR consulting. Our goal is to tackle industry issues and make learning accessible, especially in remote areas. Currently, we’re in Mumbai and Dubai, looking to expand worldwide.”

In October 2021, Misra joined Reliance Retail to head its new commerce business. Before this role, he served as the CHRO at Magicbricks, collaborating with the CEO and leadership teams to oversee HR functions aligned with the company’s goals. With over two decades of HR experience, Misra has worked in diverse sectors such as hospitality, IT, retail, internet services and real estate. Notably, he held key positions at Tesco, a major player in the UK retail industry.

Early in his career, Misra developed his HR skills at companies such as Enercon (now Wind World) and Denso, a Japanese automotive parts manufacturer. He then moved to Oberoi Hotels and Resorts in 2005 as head of HR. After a stint in the hospitality sector, he joined Capgemini in 2007 as a senior manager-HR for three years. At Capgemini, he designed onboarding and performance-management programmes, conceptualised HR initiatives, and led HR operations in the southern region.

In 2010, Misra took on HR operations at Tesco, managing IT, supply chain, and commercial areas with over 3500 employees in India. He oversaw the entire people’s agenda, including organisational development and talent management. In 2013, Misra joined Just Dial as VP and global head of HR, leading HR operations for over 10,000 employees. Two years later, he became CHRO at Fidelity National Financial, overseeing the company’s HR operations in India.

“Our unique approach involves application-based training to bridge competency gaps, emphasising practical challenges,” explains Misra.

Talking about his plans and the venture, Misra enthusiastically says, “I’ll play a mentoring role, particularly for students transitioning to corporate life and people managers looking to enhance their people’s acumen. The goal is to certify participants after completing cohort-based master classes. We’re targeting SMEs and organisations aspiring for experienced HR support, providing cost-effective solutions. Our initial focus is on India and the UAE, with plans to expand to Australia and the US in the future.”

Misra holds an honorary doctorate in human resource excellence from the University of Entrepreneurship and Technology, New York. Additionally, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in performance management from the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) at the University of Delhi.
