Diageo India, the alcohol beverage company, has appointed Chinmay Sharma as its chief human resources officer. Shama moves from GSK where he spent over five years.
An alumnus of Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development, Sharma joined Procter & Gamble in 2003, as an HR analyst. A year and nine months into this role, he was elevated to assistant manager, compensation and benefits -Africa Middle East, Eastern Europe and Asia. Another promotion two years later made him manager, talent practice. In July of 2009, he was promoted to manager, human resources. Nine months into this role, he was elevated yet again to senior manager-human resources, CBD (sales).
After over eight years with P&G, Chinmay Sharma switched to Philip Morris as country head, human resources-India, Nepal and Bangladesh. A year and a half into this role, he was promoted to head talent acquisition-Asia. This role saw him working out of Hong Kong SAR. From 2014 to 2016, he played director-human resources, Hong Kong, Macau and Asia headquarters. From June of 2016 onwards, he served as director-human resources, reduced risk products for two years, based out of Switzerland. By 2018, he had become director-people and culture, Malaysia, based out of Kuala Lumpur. He spent a total of eight years and ten months with Philip Morris before returning to India and joining GSK in 2020.
His first role at GSK was that of CHRO and executive vice president-human resources, India. Over four and a half years into this role, he was promoted to HR business leader, performance emerging markets, in July of 202, based out of Mumbai.
Sharma’s unique ability to translate complex business priorities into clear and meaningful people strategies will stand him in good stead, as he takes on his new role at Diageo where he will also be a part of the Executive Committee.
