Hindustan Power has roped in Gopalji Mehrotra for the role of chief human resources officer (CHRO). He joins this diversified group, empowering communities with affordable, reliable and sustainable energy, from ACME Group where he served as CHRO for a year.
An alumnus of XLRI Jamshedpur, Gopalji Mehrotra began his professional journey with ITC, in 1993. During his decade-long tenure there, he played multiple roles in corporate and manufacturing HR. By the time he moved on from ITC, he was human resources manager.
From 2003 to 2005 he served as vice president-human resources at Kennametal Widia India, working out of Bangalore. This role saw him partnering with the new CEO to build a culture of accountability, flexibility, response to market. He also helped revamp people practices to position the business for competitive and profitable growth by de-layering the organisational levels and investing in a robust talent-development framework. By 2005, he was elevated to global human resources director at Kennametal, based out of the US.
Mehrotra’s next stop was Zensar Technologies where he served as senior vice president for a year before taking up the role of senior vice president at Mylan, in 2011. The next three years saw him busy strategising and executing divestment, relocation and acquisition of businesses in Shanghai, Beijing and Xiamen regions of China.
Ashok Leyland roped him in to play senior vice president in 2014. During his two-year tenure there, he negotiated five union settlements to enhance productivity and also control labour cost escalations to combat recession.
From 2016 to 2018, he was president, Astix.
December of 2018 was witness to Mehrotra heading human resources for HPCL-Mittal Energy.
It was in April of 2025 that he came to be associated with ACME Group as CHRO.
A Master Certified Coach by International Coach Federation (ICF, Switzerland), he also possesses a Hogan Assessment Certification from ThreeFish Consulting India.
His 30 years of deep and diverse experience across six industry sectors —FMCG, manufacturing, pharma, automobiles, IT, chemicals and energy—will hold him in good stead in his new assignment.
