Karan Bhatia is the new director-HR business partner, PayU. He moves from Publicis Groupe, where he spent four years, with his last designation being that of vice president-HR business partner (people partner, employee experience).

Bhatia holds a bachelor’s degree in hotel management from the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM). He has also completed an MBA from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

Having begun as a humble management trainee-HR, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Karan Bhatia sure has come a long way. He joined MakeMyTrip .com as senior executive-human resources, in October 2011. Just over two and a half years later, he was elevated to assistant manager-human resources (employee life cycle specialist).

In September of 2015, he took up the role of senior manager-human resources and talent, Innoplex. He was head of a team of five responsible for talent acquisition, HR operations, business partnering, strategic HR, performance and compensation, employee engagement and end-to-end employee life cycle activities.

From 2016 to 2017 he was manager-HR operations and special projects, Rivigo. He acted as a culture catalyst, incorporating new methods and technologies to gauge engagement, pulse and prepare regular feedback mechanism, leading to a +10 per cent improvement in the company’s NPS score.

April of 2019 saw him joining Ola as senior manager-HRBP (people partner, talent management). During his almost two-year long stint there, he restructured the organisation for Ola Fleet, transitioning 100 per cent of teams to the new structure and achieving 10 per cent cost efficiency.

Over three years later, Bhatia moved to Publicis Groupe, as associate vice president-HRBP. Over a year into this role, he was promoted to vice president-HRBP (people partner, employee experience).

Bhatia feels he is joining PayU at an exciting time and is keen to “contribute to an organisation that’s redefining the future of payments with its global reach and local expertise.”

HRKatha wishes him all the best for his new assignment!
