With Peter M Fasolo, executive vice president and chief human resources officer, Johnson & Johnson (J&J), set to superannuate at the end of this year, after 16 years of service, the company has elevated Kristen Mulholland to step into his shoes.

Kristen Mulholland has been head of human resources, global total rewards, Johnson & Johnson, since 2019. She has been successfully handling compensation, benefits, global health services, as well as acquisitions and divestitures for almost five years now. She is also part of the human resources executive leadership team and headed a team of 400+ HR leaders.

Mulholland’s career began with Ernst & Young, where she served as manager for a decade, from 1989 to 1999, based out of Cleveland, Ohio. The next six years were spent at Eli Lilly, as director, working out of Indianapolis.

In 2005, she joined Johnson & Johnson as director-human resources, and worked out of Cincinnati for three years, playing strategic HR business partner for US medical devices.

Her next stop was Ethicon End-Surgery, which is a J&J company, as VP-human resources for global medical devices.

March of 2011 saw her back in Johnson & Johnson, New Jersey, as vice president, global performance management and development.

In 2012, she moved to Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. She joined as vice president, human resources for R&D and the innovation centres. Less than two years into this role, she was promoted to head of human resources, pharmaceuticals and external innovation. After spending over seven successful years at Janssen, Mulholland was again back to Johnson & Johnson, as head of human resources, global total rewards, in October 2019.

Mulholland graduated in economics from Tulane University, in 1988 and competed an MS in organisational development from Case Western Reserve University in 2004.

Known for her business acumen and Credo-based approach, Mulholland is expected to help improve J&J’s culture and make it capable of delivering future-ready talent to advance healthcare solutions.
