Essar Energy Transition’s EET Fuels, which is the trading name of Essar Oil (UK), has appointed Prashant Janaswamy as chief information officer (CIO).
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi, Janaswamy has completed an MBA from the International Management Institute (IMI) in 1998.
He worked as a senior consultant, CRM-Siebel, with GECIS, from 2003 to 2005, in the US. Then he moved to GE Power, as CRM (Siebel), IT design leader and lead business analyst for over two years, working out of Greater Atlanta Area.
September of 2006 saw Prashant Janaswamy take on the role of IT programme and delivery leader-CRM-Siebel &SFDC, GE Oil & Gas. This role saw him relocating to Hyderabad, India. After almost three years, Janaswamy got appointed as chief information officer (CIO), GE Energy, India, based out of Bangalore.
For the next two years, from 2009 to 2011, Janaswamy led the organisation from its infancy to a mature and world-class IT centre in line with the core business priorities and goals. He collaborated with global CIOs and business leaders to transform the IT strategy and deliver innovative solutions for the energy sector. He also developed a strong and diverse team of technologists, managed the budget and resources, and contributed to the board of directors and the CIO council.
His association with GE Digital began in 2011, as CIO GE Power Services MEA & global programme director-field services digital transformation. This role required him to move to Dubai for a period of a little over three years.
From July of 2014 to December 2015, he played general manager-operations, Middle East & Africa, GE Power, Dubai. The year 2016 saw him back at GE Digital, as IT director, supply chain ERP (Oracle and SAP), business integration programmes, Dubai.
He then essayed the role of IT director-digital enterprise, data and analytics, GE Power, for two and a half years, from 2017 to 2019.
In July 2019, Janaswamy moved to the UK, joining Petrofac as chief technology officer. For four years he spearheaded the strategic direction and implementation of technology solutions to support the company’s business objectives and operations. By June 2023 he was elevated to global head of data science, AI and automation, working out of Aberdeen, Scotland.
Now, in his new assignment at EET, he will lead the development and implementation of EET Fuels’ digital transformation strategy, with the goal of modernising the company’s technology infrastructure and enhancing data-driven decision-making. His over 25 years of global experience across the UK, USA, India, and the Middle East across the energy, oil and gas, and manufacturing sectors, will hold him in good stead.
