Walmart India Development Centre or Walmart IDC has roped in Priya Cherian for the role of head of HR. She has earlier worked with PayU as global head of human resources for over five years, from 2019 to 2024.

Priya Cherian started off her professional journey as a senior HR consultant at Reynolds & Reynolds in the year 2000. For seven years she successfully implemented the off-shore support model for the organisation. She also helped set up offices in China.

In 2007, she became an HR partner at WorkFlowOne. A year later, she moved to Yahoo as HR director. She headed HR for Yahoo in India for almost seven years before switching to Flipkart.

She joined Flipkart as director-human resources, in April 2015. During her tenure she worked directly with the Flipkart founder to formalise and drive the talent strategy for eKart.

September of 2016 saw her taking up the position of HR head-APAC and Middle East, Alibaba.com. For the next two years and nine months, she was a core part of the global leadership team working closely with the regional leaders for organisation design, talent strategy, and leadership development for their respective teams in various regions.

It was in June 2019 that her association with PayU began. She led the HR function at PayU across India, Latam, EMEA and SEA, reporting to the CEO of PayU and group CHRO of Naspers, for over five years.

She is also a venture partner, NextB Ventures since 2019.

Known to possess a thorough understanding of business needs and objectives, Priya Cherian has been appreciated for being sensitive to team dynamics and leadership preferences. Her skills are sure to be an asset to Walmart.
