    Tata Motors names Shailesh Chandra as CEO

    Come 1 October 2025 and Shailesh Chandra will take charge as chief executive officer (CEO), Tata Motors in addition to his responsibilities as managing director of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

    Chandra’s association with Tata Motors goes back a long way. He first joined the company in 1995 as a manager-production, armed with a BTech in Mechanical Engineering. For over six and a half years, he was in charge of gear box machining, and also looked into production planning, manpower planning, tool planning, quality and cost management. He was then elevated to senior manager-vendor development, Tata Motors, in June of 2002. During this period he also studied management at SP Jain Institute of Management Research. Over three years later, he became divisional manager, Telco/ Tata Motors, in 2006. Another promotion less than two years into this role made him divisional manager-office of the MD, in 2008. From 2012 to 2013 he served as deputy general manager-vice chairman’s office, Tata Motors.

    The period 2013 to 2016 saw Shailesh Chandra working with Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Sons—the first year and a half as general manager and then as assistant vice president, group chairman’s office.

    April of 2016 saw Chandra heading corporate strategy and business transformation at Tata Motors. Over two years into this role he was elevated to president-electric mobility business and corporate strategy. By April of 2020 he had reached the position of president-passenger vehicles business unit. Since January of 2022 he has been playing managing director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles /Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

    His latest elevation will reportedly see him taking charge as CEO for the next three years.
