    Why are Genpact employees unhappy?

The IT major has been criticised heavily on social media for increasing the work hours to 10 per day

Employees at Genpact are far from happy. And they have many social-media users expressing support too. Why? The IT services company has decided to increase work hours to ten per day. Not only has the decision not gone down well with the company’s workforce, it has received a lot of criticism on social media too. The thought of logging in earlier or logging out later, putting in extra hours at work has made many employees anxious. Most of them feel they are already putting in enough hours at work and feeling tired in the process.

When the decision was announced a couple of weeks ago, the employees had reportedly hoped that Genpact would relook at the policy, but it seems the company is determined to implement the same.

Human resource experts as well as social-media users feel this decision goes against employee wellbeing. According to media reports, employee productivity will be closely monitored via a daily tracking system that will keep a record of the number of active hours. The employees are already earning points for serving or completing the allotted hours daily, which translates into a certain bonus sum. However, for putting in the extra working hours, the incentive being offered to them is too little and appears to be not worth the effort. Unless there is a sigificant pay hike too, extra hours of work seems too much to ask.

What is interesting is that the 10-hour work day decision was reportedly conveyed to the employees via their managers and not even from the top leadership. The decision has not been officially or formally announced to the employees. The biggest worry is whether other companies will be inspired to increase their work hours too and cause employee burnout.

I am employee of Genpact too and I to agree that the decision to increase 1 hour is bad decision and it is burning out without appropriate monetary benefit just a 5% increase that too in annual variable pay…which highly unacceptable….creating more unhappy souls in the company who wants to get out

I agree with you buddy. I am a Genpact employee too. We already are delivering enough working hours. This will jeopardize the work life balance in long run and people will fall short of time, energy and money as well. Increasing only 5% is just like adding salt to injury.

It’s a bad decision and violating government policies as well. Harrasment of employees increased 1 hr on daily basis and giving 10 to 20 rupees per day.
