Samsung to hire over 10,000 employees in 2025 amid global tech layoffs

Samsung Group is ramping up hiring efforts this year, planning to recruit over 10,000 employees despite widespread job cuts in the global tech industry. The company will begin its first phase of recruitment today, that is, 10 March 2025.

A total of 16 affiliates, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, and Samsung Biologics, will participate. Candidates can submit applications through Samsung’s official recruitment portal until 17 March. The selection process includes an online aptitude test in April, followed by interviews in May and medical assessments.

Samsung Electronics, the largest subsidiary, has been steadily increasing its workforce. Since 2018, the company’s domestic employee count has grown by more than 24 per cent, reaching 1,28,169 by mid-2024. This hiring push aligns with Samsung’s long-term plan to onboard 80,000 employees over five years in sectors such as semiconductors, biotechnology, and advanced IT solutions.

The move contrasts sharply with the ongoing layoffs in the tech industry. Companies such as Intel cut 15,000 jobs last year due to financial struggles, while Meta recently announced a five per cent workforce reduction, impacting 3,600 employees.

Recently, employees of the Samsung workers’ union, marched towards the company’s manufacturing plant near Chennai on Friday, 7 March, 2025. The protest came after negotiations mediated by the state government failed to resolve ongoing disputes between the union and the company.

Around 1,250 workers participated in the march to the facility in Sunguvarchatram and claimed that Samsung is unwilling to revoke their suspension and is forcing them to sign an apology letter before allowing them back to work. The company, on the other hand, accused the union of making unreasonable demands and frequently changing its stance during negotiations.

However, as per the recent reports, the company has now agreed to a fair internal inquiry against these workers. Samsung has also allowed other protesting employees to return to work.
