The newly-formed Bharatiya Janata Party government in West Bengal has introduced tighter attendance and workplace discipline rules for state government employees. The revised rules make it compulsory for staff to reach office by 10:15 am and remain at work until 5:15 pm.
A fresh government notification stated that the move was aimed at ensuring smoother functioning of departments and improving administrative efficiency at a time when many offices are dealing with increased workloads.
Under the new directive, employees across departments will now be required to mark attendance before the specified reporting time. Staff members have also been instructed not to leave office premises during working hours unless it is related to official duties.
Reportedly, all the departments have been asked to implement the new attendance system immediately.
The stricter rules come soon after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari assumed office and began pushing for tighter administrative discipline within government offices.
The latest directive signals a shift towards stricter monitoring of attendance and employee presence, with the new government appearing keen to project a more disciplined and productivity-driven administrative structure.
