As part of its expansion plans in India, Apple is preparing to open four new retail stores in Pune, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru. The company is looking to fill a total of 400 part-time and full-time positions at these outlets. That means at least 90 people will be hired for each of the four stores, with preference being given to fresh graduates.
Last year, Apple had inaugurated two stores in the country, one in Mumbai and one in Delhi, which ended up being top performers, accounting for revenue to the tune of about Rs 800 crore. Delhi was responsible for the maximum sales (60 per cent).
In August, the iPhone manufacturer had announced that it is shifting production activity from China to India. The company had said it would produce its iPhone Pro models in India till March 2025. And that meant, it would end up creating six lakh jobs. Of these, two lakh would be direct jobs, with women forming 70 per cent of the workforce. With each of the two lakh direct jobs set to give rise to three indirect jobs, Apple’s diversification of production from China to India augurs well for our country.
Apple already has over 1.5 lakh people working for its vendors and suppliers. In fact, the maximum number of these workers are employed by Tata Electronics, which operates two Apple plants. In April 2024, it was reported that its exports from India had gone up to an overwhelming $12.1 billion in FY 2023-24.
