To support India’s first semiconductor fabrication facility being built by the Tata Group in Dholera, Gujarat, the state government is facilitating the development of 1,500 residential apartments for employees, expats and partner companies. The objective is to create a vibrant ecosystem around Tata Electronics’ Rs 91,000 crore project, which is expected to generate over 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs.
Located within the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Ahmedabad district, the housing units are being built near the under-construction fab These serviced apartments range from one to three-bedroom accommodations designed to meet the needs of professionals moving into the region.
Currently, around 275 units are already built, with nearly 250 occupied by Tata employees, ssupplier and associated partners. Another 225 apartments are about to be completed. Construction is slso underway on 1,000 more units, expected to be ready by early 2026.
The houses are not being constructed by the Gujarat government directly. Instead, land parcels were auctioned through a special purpose vehicle (SPV) involving private developers. These apartments are separate from Tata Group’s own residential development. The company has been allotted 10 acres in the initial phase and plans to construct 530 apartments by mid-2027.
Alongside housing, Gujarat is also building supporting infrastructure to ensure a high-quality of life for residents. Facilities such as a fire station, school, hospital, desalination plant, hotels, and a ‘Global Tent City’ are part of the larger development plan. These amenities, it is hoped, will accommodate the deluge of international staff and visiting professionals as the region develops into a semiconductor manufacturing hub.
