IndiGo has become the first Indian airline to employ over 1,000 women pilots, marking a major step toward gender equality in aviation. Women now make up 17.5 per cent of IndiGo’s pilot workforce—more than three times the global average.

This milestone reflects IndiGo’s broader commitment to empowering women across its operations. Nearly half of the airline’s total workforce is female, with women holding key roles in airport operations (30 per cent), the operations control centre (25 per cent), and leadership positions (23 per cent).

To celebrate the achievement, IndiGo highlighted its progress on International Women’s Day. Sukhjit Singh Pasricha, the airline’s Group Chief Human Resources Officer, said the milestone showcases the strength of “Girl Power” at IndiGo and the company’s dedication to creating equal opportunities.

IndiGo also runs programs to support women returning to work after career breaks. Its “Take-Off 2.0” initiative helps women rejoin the aviation industry smoothly, while the “6E Girl Power Community” offers a space for women to connect, share experiences, and support each other.

Beyond the cockpit, women are making strides in other departments too—more than 20 per cent of IndiGo’s finance team is female, nearly 15 per cent work in digital roles, and over 30% are in operations. Women also play key roles in shaping the airline’s future through leadership positions.

IndiGo’s focus on flexibility, career growth, and community-building sets it apart as a leader in promoting women’s empowerment in aviation. The rise in women pilots is just one part of a larger effort to make the airline more inclusive and diverse.
