Pfizer is on a mission to cut costs, and how! The coming weeks will reportedly be witness to at least 200 jobs being axed in the company’s Switzerland operations. The drugmaker is planning to function with just a team strength of 70 by the end of this year, instead of the present 300, as per media reports. The objective is to save $7 billion over the next two years by following a multi-year cost-reduction strategy.
The streamlining of operations and realignment of resources is part of the drug firm’s endeavour to simplify processes even while optimising work in high-impact areas.
The pharmaceutical firm seeks to put in place the best models and follow the best strategies to facilitate the efficient delivery of products to patients.
Earlier this year, in August, about a 100 positions were reported to be at risk in Pfizer’s Bothell, Washington operations. At the time it was reported that the layoffs were part of the company’s efforts to improve R&D productivity and become more efficient with an increased focus on opportunities. The pharma giant was also actively working towards digital enablement and embracing automation. The New York-based pharmaceutical firm had reportedly let go 56 from its San Diego team in June of 2025.
Pfizer is just one of the many pharmaceutical firms that have laid off employees this year, including Bayer, Roche and Moderna.
