Saharsh Bajpai, who has spent over two decades with Indian Railways, has now been appointed principal chief personnel officer, Western Railway.
Bajpai, who began his career as a probationary officer with the Indian Railways in December of 2000, was elevated to assistant personnel officer in June of 2002.
Over two years into this role, he was promoted to senior personnel officer, working out of Varanasi.
By December of 2006, he had reached the position of deputy chief personnel officer.
He then took a career break to pursue a master’s degree in Public Adminsitration (MPA) from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore.
He then rejoined Indian Railways as deputy chief personnel officer in July of 2009. Seven months into this role he was given additional responsibility of industrial relations. By April of 2010 he was made senior divisional personnel officer. Almost five years later came another promotion that made him deputy chief personnel officer (gazetted).
April of 2015 saw him taking on the role of chairman Railway Recruitment Cell. Three years later, he was elevated to deputy chief personnel officer (gazetted and strategy).
From 2019 to 2021 he served as additional divisional railway manager.
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corp. roped him in as general manager (HR) in July of 2021. Over two and a half years later, he was back with Indian Railways as chief personnel officer (industrial relations). In April of 2024 he was made principal chief personnel officer (PCPO).
Since March of 2025 he had been serving as chief personnel officer (administration), Indian Railways.
Now, he will be playing the role of principal chief personnel officer (PCPO), Western Railway.
Given his expertise in the key area of IT initiatives, HR policies, organisational team building and general facilities management, Saharsh Bajpai, an officer of the 1999 batch of Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS), will continue to be an asset to Indian Railways.
