Sashi Mukundan has accepted the role of executive vice president, transformation India, at Rolls-Royce, starting this month, that is, October 2025. He will lead government and business relations activities in India on behalf of the Group and support accelerating the growth of Rolls-Royce’s operations in the country.
Mukundan, who is backed by over 40 years of experience, has been serving as senior advisor, Bain Advisory Network and was earlier with bp Group. He had joined bp as country manager, gas power and renewables, in August of 2000, based out of New Delhi. Over four years into this role, he was elevated to vice president, upstream and gas business, bp India. Over four years later he was promoted to head of country-India and vice president, upstream and gas business. Over two years of working out of Mumbai in this role, he was elevated to senior vice president, bp Group and president, bp India in March of 2011.
For almost 14 years, he led bp’s India businesses including the gas and low carbon energy businesses. He also steered the boards of Castrol India, Reliance BP Mobility, India Gas Solutions, and BP Exploration (Alpha) on behalf of bp. He played a significant role in bp’s success in India with over $12 billion investments and 8,000 plus people employed.
Before beginning his association with the bp Group, Sashi Mukundan served Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). Initially, he was director-planning for seven years, from 1990 to 1997, based out of Los Angeles. Then he was elevated to director, LNG marketing and worked out of Jakarta, Indonesia, for a year. From 1981 to 2000 he played various senior roles, working out of the US and APAC before joining bp Group in August of 2000.
In the words of Tufan Erginbilgic, CEO, Rolls-Royce, Mukundan’s “appointment is an indication of Rolls-Royce’s commitment to increasing our footprint and deep partnership in India”.
Erginbilgic said that Rolls-Royce aspires “to become a strategic partner to India by co-creating, co-developing and co-manufacturing power and propulsion technologies in India, for India and the world, delivering a significant impact to Viksit Bharat 2047.”
Rolls-Royce already plays an important role in powering, protecting and connecting India through its broad capabilities in the vital growth sectors of civil aerospace, defence and energy.
