Assessors from Israel’s Population, Immigration and Border Authority (PIBA) will be in India soon to carry out skill tests. Why? Israel is in need of caregivers and construction workers. It is looking for the help of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to fill the manpower shortage in the areas of framework, plastering, iron bending and ceramic tiling.

In fact, Israel is hoping that NSDC will help recruit 5,000 caregivers and 10,000 construction workers.

The recruitment drive for construction workers is to happen in Maharashtra by end of September.

This isn’t the first time such a recruitment drive is taking place in India.

In January 2024, a six-day skill-test initiative was conducted in Harayana’s Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) campus, which saw a huge response. The jobs were advertised by the state government entity called the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN), which had launched this initiative in collaboration with NSDC.

Most of the hopeful candidates had attended workshops conducted by the Haryana government where they were made aware of the wages and job tenure among other details.

Till date, about 5,000 Indian workers have already been sent to Israel. Those selected are earning an income of Rs 1.92 lakh per month along with a bonus of over Rs 16,000 per month. They are also eligible for food, lodging and medical insurance. So far, about 5,000 selected candidates have migrated to Israel.

The candidates being sent via the government-to-government or G2G route will be imparted pre-departure training to familiarise them with Israel’s culture so that they are able to adjust better.
