Husk Power Systems has announced that its workforce has grown to over 1,000 employees across India and Africa. This is a significant expansion since its $103 million Series D financing in October 2023.

Husk aims to create 2,500 rural green jobs by the end of 2025, focusing on local hiring, gender equity and developing future leaders through initiatives such as its Helios management- trainee programme.

As part of its commitment to rural job creation, Husk hires 100 per cent local staff in the areas it operates, providing essential professional and technical training to bolster the minigrid sector. Gender equity remains a core element of its organisational development, reflecting the company’s broader mission of fostering sustainable economic growth in rural and peri-urban communities.

Husk’s key operational regions, India and Nigeria, both face high levels of youth unemployment, and the company is playing a crucial role in generating green jobs and supporting local economies.

This growth marks a tenfold increase in staff since 2018. The company is currently adding around 50 new jobs per month. This figure is expected to rise to 60 by the fourth quarter of 2024.

Manoj Sinha, co-founder and CEO, Husk, commented on the milestone, and emphasised that about 90 per cent of thevcimpany’s jobs are in some of the most economically-challenged and climate-vulnerable areas in India and Nigeria. “We’re bringing high-tech opportunities to regions where farming has been the primary occupation for generations. Our energy infrastructure investments are creating a 5X multiplier effect on local GDP in these communities,” he added.
