Texas Instruments India wrapped up the fifth edition of WiSH, its Women in Semiconductors and Hardware programme, reporting strong growth in student interest for semiconductor careers.
Registrations for the 2026 cohort rose 33 per cent year-on-year to nearly 2,600 applications. Since launching five years ago, WiSH has mentored 685 women engineering students and supported more than 300 internship opportunities, helping build a pipeline for India’s expanding semiconductor and hardware sector.
The programme pairs students with TI engineers, former WiSH participants, interns and early-career employees. Over several weeks, participants work on hands-on experiments, technical simulations, lab visits and engineering projects that mirror real product development workflows in semiconductors and embedded systems.
This year’s edition added pre-work learning modules and restructured sessions to give students more time for problem-solving, brainstorming and collaborative design. The goal, TI said, is to move beyond theory and give direct exposure to how teams build and test chips.
Arbab Kausar, HR director,Texas Instruments India, stated that early exposure to industry and mentorship are key to developing future engineers. He highlighted that while women make up 43 per cent of STEM graduates in India, one of the highest rates globally, they remain underrepresented in technical roles. He added that over the past five years, the WiSH programme has helped women engineering students build practical skills in semiconductor and hardware engineering. He noted that the 33 per cent increase in registrations this year, reflects growing interest among women across India in pursuing semiconductor careers.
A WiSH participant now interning at TI India credited direct interaction with hardware engineers for giving her key insights into the semiconductor industry, and called the internship the start of a new chapter to deepen her technical skills.
Through WiSH and other talent initiatives, TI India stated it remains focussed on strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem by nurturing the next generation of women engineers.
