Tata Chemicals Mithapur has launched Suraksha Gurukul, a dedicated safety training centre aimed at improving safety skills among employees, contractors, visitors and drivers at its site.
Developed over two years, the centre combines classroom learning with digital tools, practical demonstrations, simulations and competency assessments. It is designed to help workers understand workplace risks and practise how to respond to them before they encounter such situations on the job.
One of its key features is vehicle-driving simulators, where drivers can practise different road and workplace scenarios before entering operational areas.
The training focuses on driving skills, hazard identification and defensive driving.
The centre also uses virtual reality (VR) to provide practical learning on areas such as working at height, fire safety and emergency preparedness. The Mithapur plant and its operations have been digitally recreated, allowing employees and other learners to experience situations that are specific to their actual workplace.
Suraksha Gurukul also has a Safety Exhibition Gallery displaying safety equipment, demonstrations, learning material and workplace best practices. The complete learning process includes classroom and digital sessions, practical training, simulator and VR exercises, followed by assessment and certification.
The centre was inaugurated by Vikrant Deoras, site & manufacturing head, Tata Chemicals Mithapur, in the presence of senior leaders, department heads and employees. It was developed with support from the site’s Safety, Civil, Electrical and Plant teams.
The initiative is part of Tata Chemicals Mithapur’s wider Zero Harm programme. By giving employees and other workers opportunities to practise safety procedures in a controlled environment, the company aims to strengthen safety competence and encourage a more proactive safety culture across the site.
