By 30 November 2024, employers have been asked to complete the process of Universal Account Number (UAN) activation via Aadhaar-based OTP for all employees who have joined them in the current fiscal and then do the same for the other employees in their workforce.

This exercise will offer employees easy and seamless access to the online services being offered by EPFO, 24×7. They will be able to manage their provident fund (PF) accounts in an efficient manner from anywhere without having to visit a physical EPFO office. They will not only be able to view and download their PF passbooks but withdraw claims online, perform updations and track claims in real time.

The objective of the Ministry of Labour and Employment is to benefit maximum number of employers and employees through the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme announced in the Union Budget 2024-25. That is why the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation or EPFO has been asked do everything needed to ensure that the Universal Account Number of employees is activated. For effective outreach, EPFO will be taking the help of its zonal and regional offices. This UAN is a 12-digit code that the EPFO provides to individuals who participate in the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).

The delivery processes of the government will be made easier and simpler with the use of Aadhaar as proof of identity. There is no need for the beneficiaries to submit several proofs of identity. This also makes processes more transparent and efficient with seamless receipt of entitlements by beneficiaries.

An Aadhaar-based One-Time Password (OTP) will be required to activate the UAN. Employees need to simply visit the EPFO Member Portal and click on the ‘Activate UAN’ link and follow the instructions to complete the activation process..

The Central Government has directed all ministries and departments to see to it that subsidies and incentives are paid to the beneficiaries of welfare schemes via the Aadhaar Payment Bridge. Orders have been issued to ensure 100 per cent Biometric Aadhaar Authentication.
