In a compassionate move aimed at promoting familial bonds, the Assam government has announced two days of special casual leave for state employees. This initiative allows employees to dedicate time to their parents or parents-in-law, emphasising respect and care for elderly family members.
The announcement, made by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) today, that is, 11 July,2024, specifies that the special leaves will be available on 6 and 8 November, 2024. These days are intended solely for employees to honour and support their aging parents or parents-in-law, rather than for personal leisure.
Employees can align these special leaves with existing holidays, including Chhat Puja on 7 November, the second Saturday holiday on 9 November, and the subsequent Sunday, that is, 10 November, maximising their time with family.
While essential services employees can utilise these leaves in a phased manner, the CMO clarified that those without parents or parents-in-law will not qualify for this special provision.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma initially introduced these special casual leaves in his Independence Day address back in 2021, reflecting a proactive approach to employee welfare and family values within the state administration.
Recently, the state government has announced a new policy granting a 180-day Child Adoption Leave for women employees across all state government departments. The policy will help all the mothers to provide proper care and nourishment to their children below the age of one. Furthermore, it aims to support female employees of the state government who adopt children under the age of one, ensuring they can provide adequate care during the critical early months of adoption.
