Visakhapatnam’s favourable environment for tech growth and development has attracted Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The Indian multinational is all set to establish an information technology (IT) facility in the city, which will generate jobs for 10,000 people in the region.

The announcement follows a meeting between Minister for IT & Communications and Real Time Governance N. Lokesh and Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman, Tata Group companies in Mumbai recently.

This move by TCS will give a significant push to the tech industry in Visakhapatnam. The city will soon have an international airport at Bhogapuram, which will take care of connectivity issues. Many IT firms have already set up their offices in the city.

The Andhra Pradesh government is looking to generate about five lakh jobs in the electronics and IT space by 2029-30. It is setting aside space for various IT companies to set up their offices in the Vizag’s Millennium Towers. It is also supporting research in the field of artificial intelligence, under the AP AI Mission.

Last year, during the Global Investors Summit, the state government had inked 353 MoUs for the execution of projects worth over Rs 13 lakh crore. It was reported at the time that these projects could generate up to six lakh jobs. The renewable energy department alone had bagged Rs 9 lakh crore in investments. It was reported at the time that if executed properly the renewable energy alone could create over 1.9 lakh jobs in the state.
