7th Pay Commission: Good news for Railways staff as well as teachers

The Indian Railways announced a New Year’s gift for its guards, loco pilots, assistant loco pilots and other running staff. The running allowance will now be doubled as was being demanded by the employees’ unions for a long time now. Similarly, professors and teachers of every state will also receive a pay hike and enjoy the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission with effect from January 1, 2016.

However, by doubling the running allowance, the annual burden of the Railways will go up by Rs 1,225 crore, and the operation ratio will also go up by 2.5 per cent.

The staff members of universities and colleges, other than the teachers, will also enjoy a new pay scale from the central government. Once the 7th Pay Commission is implemented, salaries of professors will increase by about Rs 40,000, while those at the lower level will receive an increment of up to Rs 7,000 per month.
