Has Oracle laid off 2000 in India?

Media reports say that at least 2000 jobs may have been cut without prior warning

Oracle’s India operations have reportedly seen significant job cuts in the latest round of layoffs. Current and former employees estimate that between 2,000 and 2,500 staff may have been let go, though some suggest the number could be as high as 3,000 to 4,000. The company has not officially confirmed the figures.

Many employees have reportedly shared on social media that they had lost their jobs without prior warning. Termination emails explained that their roles were being eliminated as part of wider organisational restructuring. This follows earlier reports in June that Oracle had reduced its global workforce by about 21,000 over the past year, with 10,000 to 12,000 of those cuts in India.

The layoffs have also triggered resignations, as employees left voluntarily fearing they would be next. Former staff said the company was struggling to generate revenue from outdated software products that no longer matched the market’s focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing. They added that Oracle is now investing heavily in AI driven data centres and hiring more contractual staff to manage costs.

Oracle is reportedly expanding its infrastructure in India, with plans to launch a new data centre in partnership with Amazon Web Services, adding to existing facilities in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Despite this, employees expressed frustration, saying they were laid off despite good performance records and handling critical tasks. Some reportedly noted that promotions had stalled, while others described receiving redundancy emails early in the morning, marking their last working day immediately.

The cuts highlight Oracle’s shift toward cloud and AI investments, but also underline the human cost of restructuring, leaving thousands of Indian employees facing sudden career disruption.
