Croma Retail, the consumer electronics arm of Infiniti Retail owned by Tata Group, has appointed Shibashish Roy as its new chief executive officer, following the planned retirement of Avijit Mitra in early 2025. Roy, known for his customer-centred approach, is set to lead Croma’s digital and in-store growth to keep pace with evolving consumer demands.

Roy’s promotion is part of a well-structured succession strategy designed to facilitate a smooth transition as Mitra steps down.

Having joined Croma in 2021 as chief business officer for e-commerce and marketing, Roy quickly advanced to the role of deputy CEO, overseeing critical functions such as store operations, eCommerce, buying, merchandising, and technology. His leadership has played a pivotal role in integrating online and offline sales channels, reflecting Croma’s commitment to adapting to India’s increasingly digital-savvy consumers. In his new role, Roy is expected to build on this foundation, enhancing customer experience through a stronger omnichannel strategy that merges Croma’s in-store and online services seamlessly.

A veteran within the Tata Group, Roy holds an engineering degree from IIT Kharagpur and began his career with Voltas as an engineer. He then joined Tata Steel as a project trainee in 2003, marking the start of a distinguished career within the Tata ecosystem. Over the years, he held influential roles in Tata Motors, Tata Capital, and Tata Sons, where he focused on wealth management, strategic projects, and organisational development.

His extensive experience, including his involvement with Tata Administrative Services (TAS) since 2006, underpins his reputation as a versatile leader with deep insights into the Tata Group’s diverse operations and corporate values.

Mitra, a key figure in Croma’s expansion across India, will remain on the Board to ensure continuity through the leadership shift.
