After spending over 26 years with Tata Steel, Zubin Palia has been elevated to the position of chief human resources officer, India manufacturing, Tata Steel.
Palia has been associated with Tata Steel since January 1999 when he joined as manager HR, working out of Jamshedpur. Over two years into this role, he was elevated to facilitator, total operational performance leading the improvement initiative, focussed on cost, quality and throughput.
In April of 2003, he became head Aspire, driving 6 sigma and theory of constraints. Four years later came another promotion that made him head of manpower planning and career management.
From April 2008 to December 2014 he served as head-industrial relations, looking into policy formulation, compensation design, union negotiations and TQM promotion. January of 2015 saw him being elevated to chief group industrial relations.
Another promotion came by in 2020, which made him chief group human resources (HR) and industrial relations (IR).
Now, as the CHRO for India Manufacturing at Tata Steel, Zubin Palia will focus on enabling a future-ready workforce while leading the HR and IR function for the iconic steel producer. He will drive workforce excellence across Tata Steel’s manufacturing hubs in Jamshedpur, Kalinganagar and Meramandali. Palia will also look into the engineering projects, commercial functions, finance and accounts, and profit centres even while strengthening IR and CoE of contract workforce across locations.
Known to be a great team player who ensures rapid dissemination of vital knowledge to the team members, his leadership skills will continue to be an asset to Tata Steel.
