Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has revealed its intention to hire 40,000 freshers in 2025. The multinational will source its talent from campuses across the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that TCS witnessed a drop in headcount in the last quarter by 5,000. In a recent interview, Milind Lakkad, chief human resources officer (CHRO), TCS, revealed that as part of the company’s goal to become an AI-first organisation, it will focus on ensuring that the members of its workforce, across all levels, possess skills pertaining to artificial intelligence (AI). He stated clearly that coding skills alone are not sufficient today.

As per an india.com report, entry-level employees are expected to know the basics of large language models (LLM) and their applications. At the next level of the hierarchy, employees are usually expected to be able to work with LLM application programming interfaces (APIs). In the higher levels, employees need to be proficient with Gen AI tools possessing advanced AI knowledge and aware of how to apply the same. Looks like TCS is determined to ensure that employees across levels are skilled in AI.

The workforce strength at TCS stood at about 6.07 lakh in Q3, while it was 6.12 lakh in Q2 of FY 2024-25. That means, despite hiring new employees for two quarters in succession, the net headcount did see a drop. The attrition rate went up to 13 per cent in the third quarter, while it was 12.3 per cent in the second quarter of FY2024-25.

It is reported that the MNC saw a 0.4 per cent drop in revenue in Q3, compared to the second quarter of FY 2024-25.
