Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the Indian multinational information technology services firm, has seen a rise in hiring during the first quarter of FY26. The company added 5,090 (net) to its headcount in the June quarter. After a period of slow hiring, this is the second consecutive quarter of additions at TCS. The company continues to invest in workforce development. This also indicates that the company is hopeful about demand picking up.
The company’s statement reportedly reveals a rise in attrition rate to 13.8 per cent in the June quarter, which is slightly more than the 13.3 per cent attrition rate in the quarter before.
Associates at TCS put in 15 million hours of work. Milind Lakkad, CHRO, TCS reportedly informed that TCS now has 1.14 lakh employees with “higher-order AI skills”. The total strength of its global workforce stood at about 6.13 lakh by the end of last month, that is, June 2025. This is more than the 6.07 lakh employees in March.
Last month the Resource Management Group (RMG) at TCS was in the news when it announced a new policy, which required employees themselves to ensure that they are assigned a project. Employees were also told that they could not remain on the bench for more than 35 days in a year
The All India IT Employee Union (AIITEU ) had opposed and condemned the company’s bench time cap and billability policy. If the employees are unable to meet the billability target they have been told that they may have to face strict action and may even be terminated!
