Tata Projects, the Indian technology-led Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) company, has appointed Sukumar Hebbar as the managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO), effective immediately. He succeeds Vinayak Pai, who has led the company since 2022.
Hebbar has led roads, bridges, and railways and built L&T’s health business into a profitable vertical. His portfolio also includes marquee projects such as Ram Mandir, Navi Mumbai International Airport, and Kartavya Bhawan, along with key data centre wins.
With this move, Tata Projects is doubling down on growth in urban infrastructure, industrial EPC, and data centres—sectors central to India’s next decade of development.
On his appointment, Hebbar stated that Tata Projects has earned a strong reputation as a technology-led EPC leader. He added that he was excited to join at a pivotal time for the sector. He further noted that his focus would be on safer, faster, and more sustainable project execution, while scaling the company’s capabilities in data centres and green energy, areas where he sees significant opportunity for Tata Projects to lead.
Hebbar is an architect from Mysore University and an INSEAD AMP alumnus. He began his career in 1990 as a graduate engineer trainee.
