The Maharashtra government has assured positive action on the long-pending demands of around 60,000 Gram Panchayat employees following a high-level meeting with representatives of the Maharashtra State Gram Panchayat Employees’ Union.
The meeting, held at the Vidhan Bhavan complex, was chaired by Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Sachin Ahir. It was attended by Rural Development Department Principal Secretary Chandrakant Pulkundwar and office-bearers of the employees’ union.
According to the union, discussions focused on several key issues affecting Gram Panchayat employees. These included the implementation of a structured pay scale, timely transfer of Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) contributions into employees’ accounts, relaxation of Gram Panchayat income criteria linked to employment conditions, and ensuring salaries are credited online by the fifth day of every month.
The union also urged the government to fill nearly 10 per cent of vacant posts in Zilla Parishads, stating that many positions have remained unfilled for several years.
Following the meeting, union representatives described the discussions as constructive and expressed optimism that the state government would initiate the required administrative measures to address the pending issues.
The assurances come amid continued demands from Gram Panchayat employees for improved service conditions, timely salary payments and stronger social security benefits. The outcome of the meeting is expected to be closely watched by employees across the state’s rural local bodies.
