The Assam government has approved a series of financial and administrative measures aimed at strengthening employee welfare and public services. Following a cabinet meeting on Sunday, 30 November, 2025, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the ex gratia amount for the families of deceased National Health Mission (NHM) employees will be increased to Rs 7.5 lakh, up from the earlier Rs 5 lakh.
The decision recognises the contributions of NHM personnel and provides greater financial support to bereaved families. Alongside this, the cabinet also cleared a significant pay hike for staff working at five mini Industrial Training Institutes located in Dudhnoi, Pathsala, Rangia, Biswanath Chariali and Titabor.
Employees at these institutes will receive nearly a 35 per cent increase in remuneration. Their fixed pay structure will be revised with a new basic salary and an annual increment of three per cent, beginning 1 January next year. The move aims to enhance stability and improve working conditions for technical training staff across the state.
In another progressive move, the Assam government has announced a new policy granting a 180-day Child Adoption Leave for women employees across all state government departments. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared this significant decision following a cabinet meeting, stating that the policy aligns with Rule 43-B of the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972.
The policy will help all the mothers to provide proper care and nourishment to their children below the age of one. Furthermore, it aims to support female employees of the state government who adopt children under the age of one, ensuring they can provide adequate care during the critical early months of adoption.
