ZEISS India announced a strategic plan to double its workforce by 2028 with the launch of its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru. Currently employing 2,500 people, the lens manufacturer aims to expand its capabilities across software maintenance, governance, and software development in the coming years.
The GCC, expected to become a central hub for ZEISS’s operations, represents a significant step in the company’s long-term investment in India.
Priyank Kharge, Karnataka’s IT and BT minister, inaugurated the GCC, reiterating the state’s vision of establishing Karnataka as a leading knowledge and skills hub. The government’s GCC policy aims to facilitate the creation of 500 new GCCs and generate 3,50,000 jobs in the next five years, with incubation centres driving innovation and development.
The new Bengaluru-based GCC investment follows ZEISS’s Rs 2,500 crore investment in a lens- manufacturing facility in Devanahalli, slated for completion by late 2025. This facility and the GCC will support ZEISS’s mission to double baseline percentages across its manufacturing, sales, and services divisions over the next three years.
According to the company, these ongoing investments in India have been a cornerstone of ZEISS’s operations for over 25 years and are expected to continue for decades.
In partnership with the Karnataka government, ZEISS also aims to strengthen the regional research and development (R&D) ecosystem for advanced technologies such as AI-driven diagnostics and smart optical devices. ZEISS will support startups through infrastructure and expertise, enhancing the commercialisation of emerging innovations. This collaboration emphasises the company’s commitment to bolstering the local innovation landscape while positioning itself as a leader in optical technology solutions in India.
