Deloitte is preparing for a significant expansion of its India workforce, with plans to add 50,000 new employees in the coming years. The move will take the firm’s headcount in the country well beyond its current strength of around 1,40,000, reinforcing India’s growing importance in Deloitte’s global operations.
The announcement was shared by Romal Shetty, CEO, Deloitte South Asia, during the TiEcon Mangaluru 2026 event held on 16 January.
India already plays a pivotal role in Deloitte’s global delivery model. At present, one out of every four Deloitte professionals worldwide is based in the country. The firm now aims to deepen this footprint further, with an internal target of having one-third of its global workforce located in India within the next three years. This expansion reflects both talent availability and the increasing complexity of work being handled from India.
Alongside hiring at scale, Deloitte is rethinking where this talent will be based. While metro cities remain important, the firm is increasingly looking at Tier- II and Tier-III locations to support future growth.
Cities such as Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Indore and Jaipur are already on its radar. Mangaluru is also being evaluated as a potential new hub, driven by the region’s strong pipeline of engineering and medical talent.
With nearly half of the world’s GCCs operating in India, the firm sees scope for faster and more integrated expansion. To support this, Deloitte is exploring ideas such as digital economic zones that combine infrastructure, academia, startups and data capabilities to shorten setup timelines.
In parallel, Deloitte continues to pursue acquisitions and partnerships with startups to strengthen its capabilities in advanced areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and space technologies, positioning India at the centre of its next growth phase.
