Infosys reported a marginal decline in its workforce during the first quarter of FY27, with its headcount falling by 532 employees even as the company reaffirmed its campus hiring plans and continued investments in AI-led capabilities.
The IT services company ended the June quarter with a total headcount of 3,28,062, down from 328,594 in the previous quarter, signalling a shift towards productivity- and efficiency-led growth rather than workforce expansion.
Despite the decline, CEO Salil Parekh said Infosys onboarded around 4,000 freshers during the quarter and remains on track to hire 20,000 campus graduates during FY27.
The company’s annualised attrition rate rose to 13 per cent during the quarter, up from 12.6 per cent in the preceding quarter.
Infosys said it continues to invest in artificial intelligence (AI), talent and digital platforms to support long-term growth while improving productivity and operational efficiency. Jayesh Sanghrajka, chief financial officer, Infosys also announced that employee salary hikes will be implemented in two phases, beginning in October and followed by another round in January.
The company is reportedly expanding its team of frontier engineers, with plans to increase the specialised AI-focused workforce to around 6,000 over the next few years.
The latest workforce numbers reflect a broader trend across the IT services sector, where companies are balancing selective hiring in high-demand digital skills with a stronger focus on automation, productivity and cost optimisation.
