The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has urged employers to use its Employees’ Enrolment Campaign 2026 (EEC 2026) to bring eligible workers who remained outside the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) system into the social security framework.
The campaign, notified on June 29, will remain open until October 31, 2026. It provides employers with a one-time opportunity to declare eligible employees who were not enrolled under EPF between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2026.
The initiative is intended to encourage voluntary compliance and extend statutory provident fund, pension and insurance benefits to eligible workers who were left out of coverage.
Under the campaign, employers can declare employees who were eligible for EPF coverage during the specified period, provided they are alive and continue to work for the establishment when the declaration is made.
The scheme also includes certain compliance relaxations. These include a waiver of the employee’s share of contributions in cases where it was not deducted earlier, subject to the conditions prescribed under the campaign.
Employers will have to complete the enrolment and contribution process through the designated online system. A Universal Account Number (UAN) based on face authentication must be generated for each declared employee through the UMANG application. Employers will then have to deposit the applicable contributions through the Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) system.
The Labour Ministry has asked establishments to review their employment and wage records to identify workers who may qualify under the campaign.
The government expects the initiative to provide a structured route for regularising past compliance while expanding access to social security benefits.
Employers have been advised to complete the enrolment process before the campaign closes on October 31, 2026.
