The Assam government has amended its service rules to provide for the dismissal of government employees found practising polygamy, while also barring them from future government employment in the state.
The state cabinet approved the amendment to the Assam Services Discipline and Appeal Rules, 1964, on November 4. The decision introduces stricter service-related consequences for employees found entering into polygamous marriages.
In a separate employment-related decision, the cabinet approved raising the upper age limit for ex-servicemen applying for Grade 3 and Grade 4 government posts from the existing limit to 45 years.
The move is expected to widen their eligibility for state government employment.
The cabinet also approved several infrastructure and development proposals, including a ropeway development agreement with National Highways Logistics Management Limited. The agreement provides an institutional framework for developing ropeway routes across the state.
Other decisions included additional financial support of Rs 200 per quintal to farmers, taking the total minimum support price to Rs 2,640 per quintal, and approval for 154 land settlement proposals across 13 districts.
