Amazon slashes 121 jobs In Washington, India spared in the latest round

WARN filing shows layoffs across Seattle, Bellevue and Sumner fulfilment centre from Oct 1-27; brings state's total cuts to over 4,600 since late 2025

Amazon will permanently lay off 121 employees across Washington state, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed August 31, 2026 with the Washington State Employment Security Department.

Separations will begin October 1 and continue through October 27, with 32 employees scheduled to exit by October 2 and 66 by October 20. The filing lists 49 roles in Bellevue, 35 in Seattle, 32 in Sumner and one remote worker in Washington. India operations are not impacted in this round.

The cuts span corporate and logistics functions, including software development engineers, scientists, administrative support, service technicians and associates. The inclusion of Sumner, a Pierce County city where Amazon runs fulfilment operations, suggests the reductions go beyond office roles.

Amazon stated the action “is not the result of, nor reasonably expected to result in, any overall relocation or contracting out” of its Washington operations. Rapid Response teams will assist affected staff with transition.

The notice marks the fourth Washington filing this year. In October 2025, Amazon filed for 2,303 employees as part of a global 14,000 corporate cut, followed by 2,198 positions in January 2026 including 626 in Bellevue, and 57 tech workers in July. Total Washington reductions now exceed 4,600.

The layoff comes despite strong Q2 2026 results, with net sales up 20 per cent to $200.6 billion and AWS revenue up 37 per cent to $42.2 billion, as CEO Andy Jassy pushes a leaner, AI-driven startup-like model.

India continues to be a strategic hub for Amazon, powering key verticals including technology and engineering, AWS cloud services, customer support, logistics operations and core business functions.

While earlier phases of Amazon’s global restructuring impacted several regions and business units, the latest WARN filing shows no implications for employees based in India.
