Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium and a prominent aluminium producer in India, has recently implemented an innovative safety solution called T-Pulse health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) monitoring system, which incorporates state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) technology to ensure a safer workplace. BALCO has always been committed to adopting the best-in-class safety solutions to improve performance and to create a safe working environment.

The T-Pulse HSSE monitoring system is designed to monitor the ongoing activity inside the plant continuously and in real-time, utilising a network of cameras integrated into a centralised AI data lake.

During regular operations, construction projects, shutdowns and turnarounds, safety risks are managed by BALCO’s T-Pulse HSSE monitoring system using an all-inclusive  AI model for cameras, sensors, edge devices and drone data.

It detects potential hazards across various categories and promotes sustainable behavioural changes. The system provides complete coverage of the work environment, including hard-to-reach areas, and can detect unusual conditions in real-time.

The T-Pulse HSSE monitoring system aligns with BALCO’s goals of ensuring workforce safety and operational excellence through digitalisation and innovation, bringing the company closer to its goal of ‘zero harm, zero waste and zero discharge.’ BALCO has been recognized for its technology-first approach to manufacturing excellence, including receiving the ‘Manufacturing Today – Reinventing the Future’ award.
