In a major initiative to enhance workplace safety for women, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has introduced the SHe-Box portal. This new centralised platform aims to simplify the process of registering and monitoring complaints related to sexual harassment in workplaces.
The SHe-Box portal is a key element in the government’s strategy to combat sexual harassment in workplaces throughout India. It will act as a central repository for information on Internal Committees (ICs) and Local Committees (LCs) across both government and private sectors.
The portal will allow women to file complaints, track their progress, and ensure timely processing by relevant authorities. It is designed to offer a more efficient and secure method for addressing workplace harassment, while also safeguarding the privacy of complainants by keeping their personal information confidential.
The launch event, held in New Delhi, also featured the introduction of a new Ministry website, both of which are anticipated to improve the government’s digital engagement with the public.
Recognising the crucial role of women in driving inclusive economic growth, the government has been focusing on creating a safe and supportive environment for women in the workforce. The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, which seeks to protect women from sexual harassment and address their grievances, is central to this effort.
The SHe-Box portal marks a significant advancement in the implementation of this Act, ensuring that complaints are not only registered but also actively monitored. Hence, it will provide a robust framework for addressing and resolving workplace harassment issues.
