To future-proof its technology workforce, the Government of Karnataka has initiated a landmark study to assess how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the state’s IT sector. The findings will play a critical role in framing the upcoming IT Policy-2025 and enhancing the state’s flagship skilling initiative, NIPUNA Karnataka.
Titled the ‘AI Workforce Impact Survey’, the initiative seeks active participation from key stakeholders—industry leaders, HR professionals, tech practitioners and academic institutions. The goal is to gather real-time data on how AI is influencing daily operations, reshaping job roles, and altering business models.
The study is designed to uncover the depth of AI-driven disruption across the industry. It will evaluate the emergence of new job profiles, identify areas most threatened by automation, and map current skill gaps. These insights will help policymakers design targeted interventions that facilitate both innovation and inclusive growth.
The timing is significant. With Karnataka’s tech workforce now exceeding a million professionals and Bengaluru emerging as the hub for AI innovation in India, a strong and urgent need for policy action has been felt. The state government aims to ensure that rapid technological advancements do not leave its skilled workforce behind.
The survey, which is open for responses until 27 June, will remain confidential and anonymous. Its outcomes are expected to guide investments in smart reskilling under NIPUNA Karnataka and safeguard employment in a fast-changing digital economy.
This is Karnataka being proactive in trying to align skilling efforts with industry needs, positioning the state on the top. Not just in terms of AI adoption but also workforce readiness.
