The State government of Andhra Pradesh has announced a temporary relaxation of the ban on employee transfers, allowing transfers and postings to take place from 16 May to 2 June. This move is aimed at facilitating administrative efficiency and addressing personal and medical needs of employees.
Comprehensive guidelines have been released to govern the transfer process during this window.
Under the new rules, government employees who have served continuously at a single station for five years or more as of 31 May, 2025, will be mandatorily transferred. However, even those who have not completed five years at their current station can apply for transfer based on personal requests. Employees approaching retirement — specifically those scheduled to retire on or before 31 May, 2026 — will generally not be transferred unless requested or required due to administrative reasons.
Priority in transfers will be extended to specific categories of employees. These include those who are visually impaired, have children with intellectual disabilities requiring access to specialised medical facilities, or have served in tribal areas for over two years. Employees certified with disabilities of 40 per cent or more by a competent authority will also be given preference.
Additionally, employees seeking transfers due to serious medical conditions — either for themselves, their spouses, or dependent children — such as cancer, kidney transplants, neurosurgery, or other chronic illnesses, will be considered for relocation to places where appropriate medical care is available. Widowed female employees appointed on compassionate grounds are also eligible to request a transfer.
Following this brief relaxation period, the ban on transfers will be reinstated from 3 June onwards.
