The government has approved a three per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central government employees and pensioners, raising it from 55 to 58 per cent. The hike will take effect from 1 July, 2025, benefiting over one crore employees and retirees across India.
The revision, which is linked to changes in the All-India Consumer Price Index (AICPI), comes as a festive season relief for households struggling with rising expenses. For many families, the DA hike plays a crucial role in meeting essential costs such as education, healthcare and day-to-day living.
While the official announcement is expected in the October cabinet meeting, the increment will be applied retrospectively from July. This means employees will also receive arrears for July, August and September, and potentially October if the notification is delayed.
The increase was calculated based on steady growth in AICPI numbers from January to June 2025, with the June index touching 145.0. This pushed the total DA to 58.18 per cent, which was rounded down to 58 per cent as per standard rules.
The financial impact of the hike is substantial. For instance, an employee with a basic salary of Rs 18,000 will receive an additional Rs 540 per month, amounting to Rs 6,480 annually. At Level-1, where the basic salary is Rs 56,900, the monthly increase will be Rs 1,707, leading to an annual rise of Rs 20,484.
For millions of government workers and pensioners, this hike is more than a routine adjustment. It represents financial security during the festive season and a reassurance of government support amidst inflationary pressures. The October cabinet meeting is expected to formally clear the way for this boost to household incomes.

Why mislead people befre govt issues an order. This is happening since a long time. Have patience and wait for order.
As compared to the high historical price rise mostly on Food products Rice ,edible oil , Sugar, Dal, vegetables, Medicine etc daily items for serving the increase of DA @3% is unmatch .CURB ON PRICE RISE is the only option left for common people. Ro reason to be happy.
