Niva Bupa Health Insurance has announced the introduction of a new workplace policy titled Pink (Period) Leave, marking a significant step towards supporting women’s health at work. With this move, the company joins a small group of organisations in India that formally recognise menstrual health as an important aspect of employee well-being.
Under the new policy, all women employees across Niva Bupa’s India operations will be eligible for one day of paid Pink Leave every month. The leave is intended to help employees manage period-related challenges such as cramps, fatigue, migraine and nausea. The leave will be credited at the start of each month and must be used within the same month, as unused leave will not be carried forward. Employees can apply for it seamlessly through the existing leave management system by selecting the dedicated Pink Leave option.
Announcing the initiative, Tarun Katyal, director and chief sustainability & HR officer, Niva Bupa, said the policy reflects the organisation’s belief that employee well-being must be rooted in empathy and real understanding. “The introduction of Pink Leave reflects our commitment to supporting women’s health in a meaningful way. This initiative not only promotes wellness but strengthens our culture of care, inclusivity, and respect for individual needs,” he added.
Niva Bupa has consistently focused on people-first practices and has been recognised as a Great Place to Work multiple times. The introduction of Pink Leave further strengthens its approach to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive work environment that responds to diverse employee needs.
