The Public Enterprises Selection Board(PESB) has recommended Rekha Pandey for appointment as director (personnel) of Mahanadi Coalfields, a key Coal India subsidiary under the Ministry of Coal.

The recommendation comes after the PESB panel evaluated 11 applicants for the board-level position. The appointment will take effect once it receives clearance from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Pandey is currently general manager (HR/CSR) at Coal India(CIL), a position she has held since August 2025. She brings more than three decades of experience in the coal sector, having spent over 32 years with Central Coalfields(CCL). At CCL, she served as general manager from August 2024, and earlier worked as chief manager/ HoD at Darbhanga House, Ranchi from June 1994 to September 2024.

In her proposed role at MCL, Pandey will serve on the Board of Directors and function under the CMD. She will be tasked with overall responsibility for personnel and industrial relations policies, management operations, and administrative control across the company.

Her academic background includes a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management from Xavier Institute of Social Service (1991-1993) and a BA Hons in Economics from Maharani College, Jaipur.

MCL is one of Coal India’s major producing arms. The selection of Pandey, with her extensive HR and CSR exposure within CIL and CCL, is expected to strengthen the company’s focus on workforce management and employee-welfare initiatives going forward.

We at HRKatha wish her success in this journey!
