Triveni Turbine has appointed Shashwat K Mitra as its chief human resources officer (CHRO) designate, strengthening its leadership team as the company prepares for its next phase of growth.
Mitra brings nearly two decades of experience in human resources, business transformation, talent management, organisational development, leadership development, HR strategy, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility. Alongside his corporate career, he also serves as an advisor, mentor, and guest faculty, working with startups, global capability centres, academic institutions, and business leaders across India and Australia.
Prior to joining Triveni Turbine, Mitra served as vice president & global head-HR at KPIT for nearly three years, where he led the global people function, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility for a workforce of over 14,000 employees across 25 countries, managing a global HR team of more than 100 members. He initially joined the company in 2022 as head-human resources before being elevated to the global role. During his tenure, he led strategic HR initiatives, cultural transformation, leadership development, talent management, compensation, and HR analytics. He played a key role in strengthening the managerial leadership pipeline across the organisation.
Before KPIT, Mitra was director – human resources at AppDirect, where he partnered with the board and global leadership on people strategy, compliance, corporate governance, CSR, and scaling the company’s operations in India. He also took a brief sabbatical focused on mentoring students, writing, and advising startups before joining the company.
Earlier, he spent over two and a half years at Cummins Inc. as head of HR strategy & HR leader for the Global Capability Centre. There, he led long-term HR strategy for a workforce of more than 10,000 employees across multiple business entities in India. He also oversaw the Global Analytics Centre and strategic HR projects.
Prior to that, Mitra worked with Eaton for over four years in a global HR role, where he led talent management and technical capability development for over 10,000 engineers worldwide, partnered with global engineering businesses, established the HR analytics practice, and supported the setup of a greenfield technology centre.
He began his career with Mahindra Rise, where he spent nearly eight years. Starting as a graduate engineering trainee, he worked on the development of the mHawk engine programme for the XUV500 before transitioning into human resources. He later led the Mahindra Technical Academy, driving capability building, HR transformation, organisational development, talent management, HR strategy, and M&A integration across the Mahindra Group.
An alumnus of XLRI Jamshedpur, Mitra has also served as a guest faculty member for HR programmes and currently mentors startups and business leaders. During a year-long sabbatical in 2025–26, he authored the non-fiction book _People We Could Be_ while advising organisations on people strategy, business transformation, and growth.
