Intel is reportedly preparing to implement significant job cuts in Ireland. This decision is said to be a part of its extensive reorganisation, which seeks to optimise operations and improve the company’s financial health.
The company is anticipated to evaluate applications for voluntary severance based on its business needs, which means that not all employees who apply for voluntary leave may be approved.
The impact on Intel’s workforce in Ireland could be considerable. It is projected that approximately 700 employees at Intel’s Leixlip facility may face compulsory layoffs. This figure is part of a global workforce reduction plan by Intel, which aims to cut about 15 per cent of its total workforce.
To mitigate the impact on employees, Intel has offered voluntary severance packages to its staff in Ireland. These packages are substantial, with a maximum value of up to 5,00,000 Euros. Furthermore, the severance offer includes a base amount of five weeks of pay for each year of service, with the potential to receive up to 104 weeks of pay. This means that employees who opt for voluntary severance will be compensated financially based on their tenure with the company.
The deadline for employees to apply for voluntary severance has recently passed, and Intel is expected to make decisions regarding these applications shortly. By 6 September, the company will communicate its decisions to the employees. Each application will be reviewed by various business units within Intel, which will evaluate the requests in light of the company’s strategic priorities and operational needs.
