Instagram has announced a major shift in its workplace strategy, requiring all US-based employees to return to the office five days a week. The new mandate, confirmed by Meta on Monday, 1 December, 2025, will take effect on 2 February, 2026 and represents a significant tightening of the company’s return-to-office expectations.
The updated policy is specific to Instagram and will not apply to Meta’s other platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp. Meta had earlier introduced a three-day office requirement for its global workforce in September 2023, aligning with similar hybrid models adopted by other tech giants at the time.
The change follows internal communication from Adam Mosseri, head, Instagram, who indicated that a fully in-office structure is intended to strengthen creativity, speed and collaboration within the teams. He also outlined a broader cultural reset, with plans to cut down on frequent meetings and shift employees toward showcasing more product prototypes rather than detailed written decks and presentations. The intent is to encourage faster experimentation and clearer product direction.
Instagram’s decision comes as a growing number of major companies push for a complete return to office life.
With Instagram now joining the list of employers embracing an in-person model, the shift marks a continuation of the broader trend toward restoring traditional work structures in the tech sector.
