Maharashtra government has decided to raise the basic salary of employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) by Rs 6,500. The raise will take effect from April 2020.
This decision was made during a meeting held at Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai.
The Employees’ Action Association welcomed this move, expressing gratitude to the government, addressing the wage hike demands made by various organisations. The government acknowledged the hardships faced by MSRTC employees and emphasised that the decision was a balanced approach to meet their needs while considering the challenges faced by the state.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, expressed dissatisfaction over the recent strike by MSRTC employees during the Ganapati festival, which caused significant inconvenience to the public. He urged the employees to work towards improving the Corporation’s revenue and assured them that steps would be taken to enhance facilities for drivers and conductors, particularly in state depots where rest houses are in poor condition.
During the meeting, other employee-related issues were also discussed, including the possibility of providing one-year free passes for retired employees and reinstating those who were suspended.
